More than a year ago martial arts expert Leigh Childs impaled his foot on a Samurai sword during a stunt at a Swindon karate show.

Now the daredevil black belt is set to do the same stunt again only this time he intends to walk away unscathed.

The Seventh Leigh Childs Black-Belt Extravaganza kicks off on Sunday at 5.45pm.

At the event last year, Leigh landed in hospital when a sword went straight through his left foot in front of an audience of 900 at the Oasis.

The five-times British Tae Kwon Do champion was attempting to kick an apple from the 36-inch long sword.

But he misjudged his kick with disastrous results.

The sword severed four tendons and damaged tissue, but narrowly missed the major nerves.

Now he will be attempting the same stunt again, but this time using his right foot.

He said: "It was a horrible moment, when I noticed the sword was sticking right through my foot.

"Luckily there was no permanent damage and now I'm determined to do the same stunt again.

"I am quite nervous, but I am positive that I will get it right this time. I've never been somebody who quits that easily. I'm going to use the other foot this time, so I'm sure it will be fine but it all adds to the excitement.

"It's going to be a great night as we have got some of the town's best martial artists performing a celebration of music, dance and martial arts."

The extravaganza promises to be bigger than last year's event.

All of the proceeds will be donated to the GWR Christmas appeal.

The Leigh Childs Black-Belt Academy has seen its membership double this year to more than 700 students. This year's event will see 400 students performing on stage with 39 students graduating to Black-Belt 1st Degree or above.

Tickets, which are selling out fast, are available on 07000 216101.
