COLERNE A produced one of their best displays of the season to defeat second placed All Cannings 4-3 in Division One of the Shoestrings sponsored Chippenham Sunday League.

After a frantic start, All Cannings' Nick Oram found the net in the fourth minute only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.

Colerne took the lead in the seventh minute when Charlie Spirrall's free kick was superbly headed home by Mark Colley.

On 13 minutes, All Cannings' Oram found the mark again and for the second time in the match saw an effort ruled out for offside.

Cannings finally found a way back into the game in first half injury time when Richard Mansell's thunderous effort from 25 yards cannoned in off the underside of the bar to give his side a hard earned but well deserved equaliser.

Colerne regained the lead in extraordinary circumstances in the 53rd minute. All Cannings' goalkeeper sliced a clearance which fell to Danny Walters who was 40 yards from goal. He guided the ball home from the sideline and into the empty net.

Within a minute Colerne were 3-1 up when Charlie Spirrall out jumped the Cannings' defence to head home a Kevin Jones cross. Cannings were given a lifeline in the 70th minute when Mark Colley bundled the ball past his own goalkeeper to make it 3-2 following a goalmouth scramble.

Fifteen minutes from time Colerne regained their two goal cushion when substitute Julian Spirrall made an instant impact. His through ball found Jamie Bowler who beat the offside trap to stroke the ball home from the edge of the area.

Cannings finished strongly and Baker once again had a close range effort superbly saved by goalkeeper Moore, who secured his man of the match award when he saved an 87th minute Stuart Bevan penalty, which was awarded after Baker had been upended in the area. Bevan made amends for his missed penalty when he slammed home a fiercely struck free kick from 30 yards in injury time.

Referee Mark Sammut had a fine game.

Bromham and North Star A battled out a 2-2 draw. Bromham took the lead after six minutes courtesy of Richard Dyke, before Ronnie Kallimeir and Kevin Saunders gave the Star a 2-1 half-time advantage. Dyke hit his second of the game to earn Bromham their point in the 50th minute.

Referee Trevor Rushton had an excellent game.

A second half goal from Jerry Norcott was enough to earn Hullavington a 1-0 win over Gladstone Liberal Club.

With results going their way, Pilot moved nine points clear at the top following their 5-1 victory over Atworth United.

George Lacock recorded a surprisingly big win over Chippenham Police, who were without first choice goalkeeper Dave Hunt. The first 45 minutes saw Tim Culling between the sticks and the Police trailing 3-1. Julian Kirby took over the goalkeeper's jersey for the second half and let in another seven goals. Les Davies (6), Andy Joad (3) and Leon Ireland shared the goals in their 10-1 win. Steve Lever netted the Police's consolation.

WG Parr Trophy

IN the first round of the WG Parr Trophy, sponsored by Rainbow Launderette of Trowbridge, holders Maud Heath Sports were sent crashing by Wingfield, who were playing their first match for five weeks.

The Sports, who defeated Wingfield at the same stage of the competition last year, took the lead through Matthew Waite. Mike Perry drew Wingfield level before Waite struck again to restore the Sports' advantage. Simon Hodges hit a brace to move Wingfield 3-2 in front and Waite completed his hat-trick to bring the scores level at 3-3 before Mark Barnett grabbed the winner for Wingfield 15 minutes from time.

Potley United's passage into the second round was much easier with a 13-1 demolition of Malmesbury Victoria. Shaun House lead the rout with five goals and Liam Healy (4), Steve Healy (3) and James Petherbridge completed the scoring. Pete Brock replied.

Subsidiary Cup

IN the preliminary round of the Chronicle Subsidiary Cup, Second Division Sutton Benger surprised First Division Trowbridge Town Youth with a 3-1 victory.

The Youth took a 10th minute lead through Adrian Barnes, who went from hero to villain in the second period when he put through his own net to allow Benger back into the game. Goals from Scott McMullen and James Pope completed Benger's excellent win, which sees them pick up the team of the week award.

Premier Division Malmesbury Town coasted into the next round with a 7-1 win over Fourth Division Old Road Tavern. Gavin Thompson (3), Anthony Vizard (3) and Matthew Clarke shared the Town's goals and Tony Silk hit a late consolation for the Tavern.

Miller Sports came out on top of their all-Third Division clash with Christian Malford. Malford went in front through Scott Evans, but fell to goals from Simon Scattergood, Royston Aust, Tim Knight and Ralph Plummer.

Premier Division

John Crook scored in the 40th minute and Gordon Willshire netted in the 44th minute to give Box a 2-0 half-time lead. Winsley were on top in the second period but fell further behind when Willshire scored his second on the break in the 70th minute.

Neston 81 defeated local rivals Corsham Centre United 3-1 after going behind to an excellent 25 yard curling effort from Chris Fry. John Scott (2) and John Mason were Neston's scorers.

Westbury Rangers' home pitch was playable at Meadow Lane but opponents Packhorse were unable to raise a side due to a number of players suffering from flu.

Division Two

TROWBRIDGE Harriers tightened their grip at the top with a 2-1 win over Westbridge United.

West Lavington have finally found their scoring boots as they followed last week's excellent cup victory against Maud Heath Sports with an 8-0 drubbing of Navy Tavern United. Simon Drewitt bagged four goals and Leigh Wells, Robert Hannah, Kevin Bush and Nathan Cook shared the others.

Division Three

SEMINGTON Rovers closed the gap at the top as they coasted to a 7-1 win over St Jude's.

Roger Chandler netted St Jude's consolation.

Martin Williams (2), Ian McCaughn, James Webb and Stuart Buckland were on target for Rowde and Russell Francis (2), Charlie Powell (2) and Shaun Daniels found the mark for the Plough.

Biddestone Social Club maintained their 100 per cent home record and gained revenge for their earlier 3-2 defeat against Farmhouse with a 3-1 victory. Tim Tasker opened the scoring for Biddestone and Danny Jones pounced on a defensive mistake to make it 2-0. Neil Harlock added the Club's third before substitute Timmy Burke netted a late consolation for Farmhouse. Timmy Brown was making his 100th appearance for Farmhouse.

Hare and Hounds played the last 20 minutes of their match against Chippenham Black Horse with only 10 players following an injury to goalkeeper Paul Morris. The Horse were already in control as they strolled to a 4-0 win, Terry French (2), Richard Thorne and Steve Mizen hitting the target.

Division Four

BLUE Circle Saints remain top following their 4-1 win over Bradstone Rovers.

Goals from Steve Martin (2), Liam Williams and Martin Hemmens cancelled out an Alan Eades' effort and helped them maintain their two point advantage over Corsham Park Rangers, who defeated Colerne B 3-0. Tom Fleming opened the scoring in the 10th minute, before Paul Park hit a rasping 35 yard strike to make it 2-0 in the 55th minute. Park added his second 20 minutes from time.

A Steve Munday penalty was of little consolation to Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club who suffered a 4-1 loss at home to North Star B, whsoe goals came from Andy Lowe, Shaun King, Nick Cawley and Ian Barlow.

Sir Audley Arms' game with Westbury Rangers B was postponed with the home side's Lackham College pitch still unplayable after the recent downpours.

Wiltshire Sunday Cup

IT was a disastrous day for the league's teams in the Wiltshire Sunday Cup, with three out of four losing to Swindon League opposition.

Premier Division Cooper-Avon Rangers were humbled 3-0 away to New Century WMC and Cooper-Avon from the Second Division suffered a 4-0 home defeat against Transtaff and if it was not for the exploits of keeper Keith Purbrick the score could well have been doubled.

Goals from Ian Winterbottom, Dean Gumm and an own goal Arms player were not enough to stop Second Division Terry's from suffering a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Carruiers Arms.

The only ray of light came from Premier Division outfit Dog and Fox Ashley who closed Selectabook's chapter in the competition.

The Devizes League's leading side Selectabook, who have scored over 50 goals in only four league games, were unable to break down a stubborn Dog and Fox defence, and suffered a 1-0 defeat.

The all-important goal came in the 65th minute after Paul Hillman cut through Selectabook's midfield before releasing Dan Cottrell who calmly placed the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

Things could have been different had Selectabook not had a goal ruled out for offside in the 35th minute.
