Purton 5, Marlborough Town 0
HELLENIC League Purton proved too strong for their Skurray's Wiltshire League visitors Marlborough Town in the first round tie in the Wiltshire Senior Cup.
Purton were soon into their stride and took the lead after just three minutes when Jimmy Wright found Richard Watkins with a neat chip and the striker ran on to score from 12 yards. They went further ahead on ten minutes when a good run and cross from Chris Ayres down the left flank was converted by Jimmy Wright. Both Watkins and Wright should have added to the Purton score.
The visitors were then allowed back into the game by some indifferent Purton passing and Chris Ayres saved the day for the Red House side by clearing off the line with the goalkeeper beaten. Marlborough continued to have the edge and went close with another couple of good efforts before the break.
After the interval Purton got back into their stride and scored a third on 57 minutes, A defence splitting pass from Mickey Heath found Arron Crumbie, who slipped past two defenders to score.
Jimmy Wright set up Mickey Heath on 78 minutes, Heath running clear to score a fourth with a clinical finish.
Wright was once again the provider seven minutes later, finding Johnny Coole with a good ball, the youngster scoring a fifth on his first team debut after coming on as a late substitute.
Purton's Scott Crumbie, the captain for the day, had an excellent game in defence for his side.
Wootton Bassett booked a place in the second round with a comfortable 6-0 victory over Hampshire League side Amesbury Town.
In a scrappy first 45 minutes Lee Stoddart gave Bassett the lead ten minutes before the break. The half-time cuppa then worked wonders for the home side, who completely dominated the second half and added five more goals through Richard Merchant, Lee Marshall, Mickey Goodwin and Nathan Hall (2), the latter spoiling a good performance by being sent off within the last five minutes.
Goals from Rob Broadbank, Martin Dunn and Rick Casey gave Stratton Crosslink a 3-0 win over visitors Bradford Town and Shrewton United ensured a place in the draw for the second round with a 5-0 away win over Aldbourne, Dean Foot (three), Jessie Walters and Anton Brownless on target for United.
In the Skurray's League just three matches were scheduled in the Premier Division, leaders Devizes Town Reserves surprisingly being beaten 3-2 on their own ground by Warminster Town Reserves. Devizes took an early lead through Lee Davis, Warminster equalising from a penalty by Gary Lewis. His first effort was well stopped by Devizes goalkeeper Jim Flippance but Lewis hit in the rebound. John Hargreaves and Graham Russell added further goals for Warminster before substitute Ashton Turner pulled a goal back to ensure an exciting end to the game.
A second half goal from Frankie Rogers gave Corsham Town Reserves a 1-0 win over Malmesbury Vics Reserves, the three points moving them off the foot of the table.
Pewsey Vale Reserves and Westbury United Reserves failed to find the net in a dour no-score draw.
