The young choristers at St John's Church in Devizes have used their vocal cords to raise money to keep music alive in the town's parish church.
Their first CD has just been released. Priced at £9.95, its proceeds will go to the Organ Fund at St John's.
Jon Riding, organist and choirmaster, said: "The organ at St John's is now in urgent need of a thorough overhaul and rebuilding. It has served the church well since 1916 but is now overdue for refurbishment.
"At this stage we don't know what the cost of the work will be but we know it will be significant and, together with the other calls on the resources of the parish, it is likely to be beyond them alone."
Faced with the need to raise some money, the choir decided the best way they could help was to do what they do best. The result is a CD with 65 minutes of a wide range of church music from old favourites like Mendelssohn's O For the Wings of a Dove to modern works like Maurice Durufle's beautiful setting of Ubi Caritas which was sung at the wedding of the Earl and Countess of Wessex.
The CD is available from Devizes Books, the Bluestone Gallery, Duck's newsagents and WH Smith.
The award-winning choir is always looking for new members and anyone interested should contact Mr Riding on (01380) 721443.
