FISHING. Winter roach fishing is beginning to take off as both the Avon and Nadder fine down after the recent floods.
Two 3lb roach have been caught from the lower Avon, and the Nadder at Salisbury, which yielded a 3lb roach a week ago, presented Malc Pepperill with one of 2lb 3oz at the weekend.
A stretch of the Nadder near Churchfields gave Frank Gumbleton a bag of 24lb made up of chub and ten grayling, the best at 1lb. Reports confirm that the Avon is clearing along its entire length and although still high and fast-flowing, is fishing well.
However, many meadows and bank sides below Salisbury are still under flood water and extreme care must be taken.
