Swindon's Child Health Department is the first ever to be awarded a national distinction for its work.
Following an exhaustive inspection of all elements of the department by a team from the Child Health Inspection Committee, the 30-strong team emerged with flying colours.
Primary Care manager, Brenda Savill, who runs the department which is based at Chatsworth House, Bath Road, said: "I am really thrilled for the department. We are the first department in the three years since these inspections were launched to have received a distinction. But we are not going to rest on our laurels."
The inspection committee reached its decision after examining a range of areas in the department including computer systems, security, day to day running of the department and staff training.
The Child Health Department, which is mainly made up of administration staff, is responsible for keeping the records of 80,000 children throughout the whole of East Wiltshire, including Swindon.
