A rallying cry has gone out for people to support park and ride and keep Salisbury a "thriving and vibrant" shopping centre.
It came from the vice-president of Salisbury and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ian Newman, who said the city needed to tackle its parking and traffic problems if it was to compete with rival towns - and park and ride was the only solution on offer.
Speaking at the Chamber's annual dinner and Salisbury Business 2000
Awards night at the City Hall, he conceded there were misgivings about the project but said every effort had to be made to make it a success.
"If Salisbury is to continue to have a beating and thriving heart as a shopping and tourist centre we have got to embrace park and ride and make it work," he said.
