A LATE-NIGHT fight in Trowbridge landed a man in court when he punched a woman in the face after she spurned his advances.

Nigel Hibbert, 36, of Bramley Lane, Trowbridge, pleaded guilty to the assault outside Juice nightclub when he appeared at North West Wiltshire Magistrates' Court in Trowbridge on Thursday.

Amanda Sawetz, prosecuting, said the victim was approached by Hibbert.

Miss Sawetz went though the victim's account: "He said 'you look nice' and I felt he was invading my personal space, I was very scared. "I went to the kebab van to get away, he stood directly behind me and said I had a sexy bum and felt it.

"I felt angry and scared and felt he had no right to feel my bum or make those comments."

Hibbert said the woman had hit him first, saying 'If she wants to hit me I will treat her like a bloke.'

John Elliott, defending, said: "He says she has admitted that she pushed him away. He saw that as a slap to the face and I am afraid he retaliated."

Hibbert was fined £150 and ordered to pay £100 compensation and £50 prosecution costs.
