RESIDENTS with no off-street parking in Trowbridge are campaigning against plans to stop them parking outside their own homes.
People living in Union Street, St Thomas Road and Timbrell Street were furious when they discovered Wiltshire County Council's plans to put down double yellow lines, banning parking at all times.
Now they have put together a petition calling for the scheme to be dropped.
Andy Powell, who lives in Union Street, said double yellow lines would cause major problems.
He said: "None of us knew anything about the council's plans to put down these double yellow lines.
"It would cause real problems for people living here, as we don't have any off-street parking."
Mr Powell, who has four vehicles, pays to rent parking space nearby and said residents were hoping to buy parking spaces in the Ushers redevelopment.
He said: "People who park here need that parking and reducing it would be a nightmare. Lovemead car park is not feasible because cars get broken into, and it's a heck of a way to walk with shopping.
The area's councillor Tom James said he was backing the residents calling for the lines to be dropped in Union Street.
He said: "The residents in Union Street have a case and I support it, but I cannot support overturning the decision for the other roads."
A county council spokesman said: "We are aware that a petition is being gathered. Any work will be put on hold until the environment and transport sub committee meets in January and will depend on that decision."
