THE Down Memory Lane picture (Wiltshire Times, November 17) brought a lot of memories, some happy and some not so happy.
I worked in the canteen at the Spitfire works in Bradley Road, Trowbridge, and at the time of Queen Mary's visit we had a very kind and understanding cook. Her name was Mrs Tilbury and we both had the privilege to wait on her Royal Highness.
My name at that time was Kate Box, and I am standing down in the right of the picture behind the ladies sitting.
Also with me are a few of my workmates, including Mary and Nancy Matthews, Hilda Dennison and Helen Bird.
The canteen had a large staff due to so many workers needing to be fed.
I wonder if there are any of those about now who remember me. I have since married, and been widowed.
K WALLACE,
Windermere Road,
Trowbridge.
