MELKSHAM Town Council has given away over £2,000 in grants.
The council is giving £300 to Wiltshire Bobby Van scheme, £600 to the St John Ambulance, £500 to Melksham's Riverside project and £1,200 to this year's Christmas lights.
Cllr Angie Barker said the town should be proud of its Christmas lights and there was the possibility of extra money from the five towns initiative.
Cllr Davina Griffin said she found it disappointing that not more business in the town gave to the lights. "If every business donated £10 or even £20 it would make a big difference," she said.
The lights are being switched on on December 2.
