WE HAVE lived for about six years along The Down in Trowbridge, at the Hilperton end, which joins Wyke Road.
The traffic has always been a nightmare, the road is used like a racetrack. Since the Paxcroft Mead development it is used more than ever as a short cut by all and sundry, all driving like maniacs along a built-up area which has no speed signs and no proper school crossing. It's a tragic accident waiting to happen.
To get out of your drive takes several attempts no-one is courteous enough to give way, so now in exasperation we pull out and hope the traffic slows down enough to allow us out.
Our main concern is for our grandson. Whenever he visits, the front door is locked for fear he wanders near the road, so our front garden is out of bounds and not used as it should be.
Unfortunately last weekend, our lovely cat who was 10 years old was killed on this road. She rarely ventured out of the house let alone the garden. She was left to die alone under a bush. When we found her she had been dead for some time. Nobody had the decency to knock on a few doors and ask who she belonged to. It would have certainly made it easier for the family.
I feel that unless the traffic is made to slow down, there is going to be a terrible accident before long.
Speed signs should be put up, there should be a proper school crossing or flashing signs on either side of the road, not just a lamp post with a school crossing sign on it. With the amount of council tax we pay to live here, I don't think it is too much to ask.
