TWO projects along the west Wiltshire stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal will be axed.
Five projects were originally under threat, including the proposed new £41,875 car park at Semington.
The projects were due to be cut because of an overspend by the Kennet and Avon Canal Partnership on the canal refurbishment and protection work. The revised shortfall was estimated at £1,215,000.
Money will not now be available to provide signs to the car park at Bradford on Avon. The tourist signs at Limpley Stoke Bridge will not be included in the refurbishment programme.
Cutting both these projects will save just under £2,000.
Landscaping around the Airsprung factory alongside the canal in Trowbridge will be carried out at a cost of around £500 and the sluice repairs at Bradford on Avon will still go ahead. This is due to cost £8,046.
A Heritage Lottery Grant of £25m was awarded in 1997 to safeguard the future of the canal. Unforeseen factors, including new legislation on species and habitat protection, have increased costs.
