Double blow as singers cancel for second time
Theatre goers had an anything but a super time when the comic singers they went to see pulled out at the last minute for the second time.
Some members of the audience expecting to watch Supergirly at the Wyvern on Wednesday night had already suffered one disappointment after the duo cancelled a show there on October 4 because of illness.
They were offered their money back or a chance to re-book, which many of them took, to see the singers at a later date.
Among them were 12 staff from Nationwide Building Society who had been looking forward to the night out since the summer.
When they arrived on Wednes-day they bought drinks at the bar and even took their seats before being told the show was not going ahead because one of the girls was ill again.
For one of the group, Lynn Northcott, the announcement was a double blow because she had organised the trip as a treat for her mother's birthday.
"We had been looking forward to this for a long time. We booked it way back in the summer after I saw Supergirly at the Arts Centre when they were very good," she said.
"When it was cancelled the first time we decided to keep our tickets for the next performance but I couldn't believe it when that was cancelled too. It was very short notice and they even let us buy drinks in the bar first. Twice we have all had to pay for car parking too. But it was the disappointment more than anything."
Supergirly have proved popular in Swindon where they have appeared a number of times in the last year. They take the words to well-known pop songs and replace them with their own humorous lyrics which have earned them praise from many of the stars they imitate.
Most of Lynn's group opted for a refund.
Ted Doan, general manager at the Wyvern, said he was sorry for any disappointment.
"We had to postpone the original show in October because one of the girls was unwell so we re-scheduled.
"On Wednesday Supergirly did actually go to the theatre and had been rehearsing in the afternoon but one of them hadn't been feeling well again.
"It gradually got worse and 20 minutes before the show she had a very bad attack and was distraught the show couldn't go on.
"It was very unfortunate and a great shame for the audience but we look forward to welcoming Supergirly back again."
