Pupils at Colebrook Junior School got to play in the mud and help break a record all at once.
The children planted 250 beech trees in the grounds of the school as part of a national bid to break the Guinness world record for the number of trees planted in a three-day period.
The children taking part were joined by their parents as they planted the 250 trees around the perimeter of the school grounds.
Teacher Teresa Hogden said: "The children got thoroughly muddy and all had a good time."
Mrs Hogden said the youngsters who took part were excited about planting the trees and at the prospect of watching them grow over the years.
"It will be great for the children from the school now to come back to the school with their own children and be able to say this is the tree that I helped to plant," she said.
The tree planting record attempt comes to a climax on Sunday 26th Nov, when volunteers are asked to go to Nightingale Wood between 10am and 3pm to help plant 2,000 trees in a bid to break the record.
