Former Town striker Peter Thorne was delighted to put one over his old club, but saddened to see them in their current predicament.
The Stoke forward was relieved to get back to winning ways after his side's FA Cup exit at Nuneaton in midweek.
"It was a good result," he said. "We've had a bad run. We slipped up in the FA Cup and it was so important for us to get three points.
"We went out there and we worked hard and we got what we wanted.
"We dominated the game and went 2-0 up. In the last 15 minutes of the first half, it evened up and if Swindon had got a goal, it would have been a different game.
"But we got the all-important third goal in the second half and that was the end of it."
The 27-year-old has fond memories of his days at the County Ground and has some advice to help them escape the relegation zone.
He said: "I enjoyed my time here, the fans were good to me. It's a shame to see them down at the bottom of Division Two.
"They have to battle like we have and get out of this division.
"This is a league where you've got to have a team of battlers. Sometimes you can play too much football.
"In this league, sometimes you've got to be more direct. I think they can do it. The key is battling."
