Children from Penhill Primary Sch-ool dressed up as their favourite characters from books and fairy tales for the culmination of the school's book week.
Teachers and support assistants joined in the fun, with headteacher Linda Rankin dressing as the Wicked Witch and teacher Hilary Wilkey as Mary Poppins.
Educational support assistant Mary Strat-ford and Pam Mitchell dressed up as the Snowman and the little boy from the Raymond Brigg's classic story.
Mrs Wilkey said: "The children really made an effort and there were some excellent outfits.
"Throughout the week, the children have been taking part in a number of activities aimed at encouraging children to look at books as being fun."
She explained that children's author Mary Rayner and local poet Mike Chubb visited the school earlier last week to tell the youngsters to bring literature alive.
