Old Town has received a vocal reminder not to forget a sparkling festive tradition.
The official switch-on of Old Town's Christmas lights takes place on Thursday in Wood Street at 7pm.
The mayor of Swindon, Arthur Archer, will perform the honours.
As part of the build-up, town crier Fred Ferris bellowed the news to shoppers on a gloomy Saturday morning.
Organiser Harry Bromley said: "Old Town is a community within a community. It is an important event and a good display reflects well on Old Town itself."
Thursday evening's festivities will continue a tradition which started in 1966, the first time Old Town boasted its own lights.
Mr Bromley said new lights had been secured for this year's display but at a price. The Old Town Business and Professional Associa-tion has already secured £5,000 but a further £5,000 is needed.
Other attractions on the night will be Robbo the Clown, panto characters from Aladdin, the Swindon Male Voice Choir and Santa with sleigh.
