The remarks in the letter Welcome to Sodom and Gomorrah, Evening Advertiser, 22 November, bears no resemblance to the meeting which it refers to, at the Elim Pentecostal Church.
I feel A J Davies failed to grasp the level of debate on the night, and is under a total delusion in believing the comments are representative of those present.
Whilst they may in part have been the views of some members of the panel, they most certainly were not the feelings of the people who attended the meeting, and contributed to the debate. It was impressed on both Members of Parliament, Julia Drown and Michael Wills, that grave concern exists amongst Christians in Swindon regarding legislation being passed, and contemplated, by the Government.
The debate on Clause 28 formed only part of the proceedings on the night; people from all over Swindon also raised several other important matters. It was not "generally agreed" at the meeting "we should be tolerant and accept that homosexuality is a private matter".
This was certainly advocated by the MPs, but those present rejected it as being an acceptable alternative.
However, it must also be stated that whilst we know the Bible teaches that the practice of homosexuality is wrong, Christians feel it is unacceptable for any kind of reprisal to be taken against homosexuals.
