Upper Stratton vicar the Reverend Carol Stone finally faced the world today and spoke of her relief at having undergone a sex change.

It was the culmination of a lifelong dream for the 46-year-old, born Peter Stone, a twice married father-of-one.

Ever since the Advertiser first broke the story of the Rev Stone's 'gender reassignment' in June, we have supported her courage and determination.

Her frankness and honesty commands respect and indeed, her parishioners have demonstrated that in their overwhelming support.

It is indicative of how far society has come in dealing with the sexuality of individuals. People today are now much more tolerant and prepared to accept that not everyone leads their lives in the same way.

The Rev Stone returns to parish duties at St Philip's Church on Sunday and is excited by the prospect of continuing with her ministry.

It is important that people continue to offer their support to Carol and we join her parishioners in wishing her the best of luck for the future.
