A SPECIAL delivery from Santa Claus would be a welcome present for children and staff at Koalas Swindon Opportunity Group.
This is just one of several organisations hoping for some seasonal generosity from This is Wiltshire readers during this year's Evening Advertiser/Rotary Christmas Appeal.
Koalas is based at the Victoria Hospital in Okus Road. It was formed in 1987 by a group of parents whose children had special needs.
They wanted to provide a learning, yet fun environment for their youngsters, while also giving the adults a chance to meet in an informal setting.
Stephanie Hathaway is the Koalas' co-ordinator. She is hoping readers will continue to support the group.
"The people of Swindon have shown in the past how generous they can be. Hopefully, they will do so again. The parents certainly appreciate it," she said.
Mrs Hathaway is part of a six-strong team which caters for up to 20 youngsters, four mornings a week. Each child is allocated one member of staff as their 'key worker'.
Children aged under six have fun while learning social skills and stimulating the senses. The children enjoy a wide range of activities, including art and puzzle-solving.
"Educational toys would be really appreciated. Some members of the group are partially-sighted so shiny, glittering toys would be useful," she said.
Rattles which make different sounds would benefit those children whose hearing is impaired.
As well as catering for very young children, the group also has a special pre-school room where children are given an introduction to some of the skills they will need during their education.
More than 1,000 toys were pledged to the Evening Advertiser and Rotary Club Christmas Appeal last year. Generous readers also provided more than £2,000 in cash.
As well as youngsters, donations will also ensure a happier Christmas for elderly residents who face a festive season alone with no money to provide themselves with a decent meal.
