COMEDY star June Whitfield made her first-ever visit to Swindon to sign copies of her new book.
June, 75, was in town to visit the headquarters of booksellers WH Smith, promoting her autobiography '...and June Whitfield.'
She said: "This is the first and probably last book I've written it took about two years on and off. I enjoy book signings, it's great to meet people.
"It's even nicer to see people buying your book, even if they are buying it for their gran!"
Staff at WH Smith's Swindon HQ at Greenbridge queued to meet the star of stage and screen, who was awarded an OBE in 1985.
Accounts clerk Roz New, 46, said: "It was really nerve-wracking to meet her. My first thought was that she's tinier than you think. She looks bigger on television."
June's radio career began with small parts in the BBC Radio drama/documentary Focus on Nursing, while her first television appearance was made in the 1951 BBC show The Passing Show.
It was in comedy that she found real fame, starring in Carry On films and the TV sitcoms Terry and June and Absolutely Fabulous.
