RETAILERS and businesses are being sought for the six new units and first-floor office space being provided as part of the phase two development in Calne.

The phase two development includes a self-contained ground floor library, six shops and 14 social housing flats.

There are also plans for public art, a sculpture outside the library, public seating areas, landscaping, mosaic paving, railings, lighting and floodgates.

The retail units are being marketed by Mansfield Elstob Main and the offices, which will be located on the first floor of the library, by Humberts.

A spokesman for North Wiltshire District Council said: "Three of the units will have frontage to the High Street and the other three will be located on the riverside walk on the River Marden. It is hoped the units and offices will be occupied by summer 2000."

The new library will replace the building in London Road, which is the oldest purpose-built library in Wiltshire.

It was opened in 1905 and financed by the millionaire industrialist Andrew Carnegie.
