A MAN sitting in a bath of beans greeted puzzled drinkers at Highworth Town football club.
Dave Evans, 34, decided to spend an uncomfortable 24 hours to raise funds for a youngster with cerebral palsy.
His ordeal will hopefully net the £1,000 needed to provide special equipment which will allow 12-year-old Richard Hestor to feed himself.
"I love baked beans so I thought this would be a different way of raising the money," he said.
Mr Evans bought 222 tins of beans for his unusual feat.
The bath was placed in the main bar of the football club, so it proved to be a very public experience for the section manager at Honda. "It was a bit cold at first and I think there were a few funny looks. It wasn't too bad once I warmed up a bit though," he said.
He said it was an uncomfortable 24 hours but the experience had not put him off eating beans again.
Mr Evans, a committee member at Highworth Town, said the club and his workmates had been very supportive.
He was not alone in his fundraising. Fellow committee member Paul Richards, had his head shaved. Both said Richard's family were delighted with their efforts.
