Swindon's very own Diana Dors lookalike has announced she is to wed.

But unlike her screen idol, 23-year-old Sharon Maidment says that when she marries Nathan Woodhouse next year it will be the first and last time she walks down the aisle.

The real Diana Dors married three times but Sharon insists that Nathan, 25, of Wroughton, is the only man for her.

Sharon's career took off as a Diana double after the Evening Advertiser printed pictures from her portfolio last year. Readers did a double-take when we printed pictures of Sharon dressed as Diana.

With her curvy figure, trademark pout and a wardrobe bursting with sequins and fur, even Diana's auntie agreed she could pass as Swindon's most famous daughter in her heyday.

Sharon insists that marriage will not slow down her quest for fame.

"Nathan is 100 per cent behind me and I will continue to model and do charity work," she said.

The couple met at Sharon's best friend's wedding in April this year.

"He was a real gentleman and brought me over a chair," she said.

"Later in the evening he asked if I wanted to dance," explained Sharon, a model and customer service assistant from Stratton.

"I was smitten by his eyes immediately it was a first sight thing."

It came as a complete surprise to Sharon when Nathan popped the question during a two-week holiday in Egypt earlier this month.

"We were on the top deck cruising down the Nile when he just asked me and gave me a ring," she said.

Their engagement was announced in the Evening Advertiser even before the couple returned to England.

Now Sharon, who works in Dorcan, and Nathan, who works at Rover, are busy planning a church wedding.

They already have their sights set on the picturesque Wroughton chapel.
