On reaching the age of 80 at the beginning of the month, I got an extra 25p. Being on the ordinary pension I qualify for housing benefit and Council Tax benefit.
Imaging my surprise today to receive a letter from the Revenue people telling me they had given me too much benefit by 2p for the period November 13-15, 2000, and that they had given me 97p too much for the period November 16 to March 31, 2001, and that this 99p has to be paid back!
When we get our rise in April I suppose they will want that as well. Are there any other pensioners in this situation? If so write to your MP. I think it is disgusting that we fought in the war and paid in all our working life for a better place to live when we could no longer work.
It must have cost at least 50p with postage, paper etc, to send the letter to me.
