I have been following with interest the Letters page with reference to the Thamesdown bus tokens, and the views so forcefully expressed by Mr Avenell.
As the finance to supply these tokens comes from the council tax, to which we all contribute, and the purpose the tokens are issued, as I understand it, is to enable senior citizens to get about the town, I can see no reason at all why they should be used on the railways.
This is not what they were issued for.
Also, I believe the council has to pay the railway company a commission to process these tokens.
It is pathetic that three Tory councillors have to oppose the decision reached by the council, with the presumed idea of picking up a few votes.
Mr Avenell, be satisfied you are fairly treated by the
council.
