A permanent memorial to the work of the community of Melksham was un-veiled last weekend.
Melksham's millennium mosaic was officially unveiled by the Mayor of Melksham, Cllr Vic Oakman, and many of the town's community groups gathered for the event on Sunday.
"It is a really good idea and has involved lots of community groups. I was very pleased to be asked to take part in the unveiling," said Cllr Oakman.
Gill Goodhind, who has been overseeing the work, was delighted with the response from the community groups.
"We had a very good response from a number of groups in town and there are still at least five more mosaic slabs to lay," she said.
There are 200 slabs in the spiral footpath mosaic, and more than 45 represent community groups in the town including the town council, George Ward School, the Christie Miller Sports Centre, the Lions Club, Rotary Club, Link, Melksham and District PHAB club and Melksham Family of Churches.
"The project was to make a permanent memorial to the community groups and I think we have succeeded. There are many groups who have made a real difference in the town and this is one way to remember them," said Mrs Goodhind.
The project was launched about 18 months ago to run hand in hand with the Riverside walk.
Mrs Goodhind is hoping other community groups will want to add their names to a slab.
"There are a few still to add, if other groups want their own permanent millennium celebration."
