Householders in North Wiltshire will soon get the chance to have a say about the local council structure.
A new Government Act coming into force next year means that local authorities have to have a revamped form of administration.
This means North Wiltshire District Council will have to choose between a London-type elected Mayor supported by a cabinet or a councillor picked by the council to act as its leader, supported by a cabinet.
All major decisions, apart from confidential items, will be made at open meetings where the public and media are welcome to attend.
Full council, which is made up of all 52 elected members, will be responsible for making the important decisions including setting the budget and introducing new policies.
Swindon Borough Council has already got a new cabinet-style of local government which is being run solely on a trial basis until it becomes law.
North Wilts Council has produced a questionnaire which will be handed around throughout the district to find out what structure people would like to see.
People can also give their views directly by contacting 01249 706560 or by emailing policy@northwilts.gov.uk.
