A NEW initiative has been launched in an attempt to reverse the declining fortunes of rural businesses.
The closure of many village post offices and a reduction in the number of rural jobs, particularly in agriculture, has spurred Business Link Wiltshire and Swindon to appoint a new rural business adviser, Brian Steel.
His role will be to help rural communities strive towards economic recovery through the provision of specialist advice.
Mr Steel said: "The scheme aims to improve the prosperity of rural businesses and all the resources of Business Link will be directed right into the heart of rural communities."
Mr Steel will be able to advise businesses on the help available and sources of funding, including grants suited to rural projects.
Mr Steel said: "The aim is to offer rural businesses a complete solution, so that they can grow into successful businesses for the benefit of their local communities."
The new role is part of a programme of measures being implemented by Business Link which forms part of a national network of partnerships between the business community and government.
Mr Steel will work alongside Tim Evans, who was recently appointed to advise businesses in the agricultural sector.
Rural-based businesses interested in accessing the scheme can contact Mr Steel at Business Link on (01793) 428342.
