CHILDREN at Ferndale Infants School will now enjoy playing out in the winter weather much more thanks to the generosity of pub regulars.
The school took delivery of outdoor play equipment on Wednesday bought with £291 raised from a conker competition at the nearby Southbrook Inn.
With its own conker tree outside, the pub stages a contest every year.
It gives the proceeds to local causes and this year chose Ferndale Infants where landlady Gina Downing's daughter Rebecca has just started as a reception teacher.
Mrs Downing said: "The competition was great fun and all the regulars took part. The pub is a real community pub, uniting young children and grandparents."
School administration officer Kim Morse said: "We are very grateful to the Southbrook Inn. The children's faces lit up when they saw the play equipment."
