A WOMAN and her two children were evacuated from their home in Ashbury Avenue in Nythe at 2.53am today following a small blaze.
Firemen using breathing apparatus entered the house to tackle the fire which started in the bedroom and was caused by a discarded cigarette.
No one was injured and all three were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.
A fire service spokesman said: "We would like to take this opportunity to warn people of the dangers of smoking in bed.
"Further, the house had no smoke alarm, and if it did the persons in the house would have been alerted much quicker.''
