Re Evening Advertiser, November 17, St Andrews Ridge, Residents Against Bookham (STARRAB): I have lived in Abbey Meads for four years and the land proposed has always been designated for industrial use as shown on an advertising hoarding at the bottom of Salzgitter Drive.

I did not hear this action group complaining when Motorola proposed its factory at St Andrews Ridge, which also carries out manufacturing research at its premises and also operates a shift pattern for its workers at the site.

Apart from the shift work it was very similar to the work proposed by Bookham Technologies. Is this a case like the Front Garden Action Group not in my back yard syndrome? Some people seem very naive when buying houses when they do not seem to consider the full implications of what is earmarked for the land around them.

Perhaps STARRAB could use its action group for something really worthwhile for the residents of St Andrews Ridge and Abbey Meads which is the inconsiderate motorists who park on the pavements, park opposite each other which restricts the roads to the emergency services and other motorists and the many drivers who ignore the speed restrictions.

The builders who seem to like to dig up the roads and footpaths and then leave the work area incomplete for many months eg holes not properly filled in, uneven surfaces all things which are ruining the quality of life in St Andrews Ridge and Abbey Meads.
