SWINDON RFC recorded their second consecutive defeat when they went down 14-8 to Grove on Saturday.
Despite having most of the territorial advantage and possession, Swindon just couldn't convert their domination into points.
After a dull first half, two penalties and a drop goal from Grove saw Swindon turn around for the second period 9-0 down, but with a gusty wind in their favour.
They scored first after the break through a well-taken try from winger Nathan Waite, shortly after Paul Wakefield had broken his leg.
But then Grove scored a breakaway try to dampen the Swindon spirits, and despite an Adam Westall penalty, they could not fight back to cross the tryline again.
The result means Swindon fell down to fourth place in the Southern Counties North division. They face Bletchley next Saturday.
The seconds lost 38-20 to Witney, the thirds lost 30-7 against the same opposition, and the Vets won 24-12, also against the Oxfordshire side.
