IT was fishy day at Asda as the supermarket helped raise funds for National Fishermen's Day.
The first such day was set up by the Fishermen's Mission to help the thousands of fishing families affected by death or injury at sea.
Asda donated profits from every Fish product sold on the day.
Lynne Baylis, who works on the fish counter, said: "The event went brilliantly, it really went with a bang.
"We had 26 school children from Shaw Ridge school, aged between seven and nine years old. They had a really great day and were fascinated by the shark displayed on the counter." Kerry Tyler, a representative from the Fishermen's Mission, also visited the store to speak to the children about the Mission which provides pastoral and welfare care for working fishermen, their wives, widows and children.
Support is offered in more than 80 ports and harbours throughout the United Kingdom.
Rob Swyer, Asda's fish director, said: "Every month seven fishermen are killed or seriously injured.
"We want to be able to help support the fishermen and their families."
