A LANDLADY is aiming to raise more than £1,000 for the Evening Advertiser/Rotary Christmas Appeal.

Joy Wiseman, of The Village pub on Rodbourne Road near the Designer Outlet Village, is the great aunt of Down's syndrome lad Terry Anderson, whose face is featured on our campaign logo.

She is hosting a series of events including an Ann Summers party and a Full Monty-style show featuring her doormen.

"I've often raised money for charity it's something I really like to do," she said.

"When my regulars saw Terry's pictures on the front of the paper they told me I'd look silly if I didn't do something."

The pub is holding a family day on Boxing Day which will feature fancy dress for the children and a raffle featuring gifts from Arkells Brewery and a free meal in a Swindon restaurant.

Mrs Wiseman added: "I'm a great believer in raising money for charity.

"I like to be there for children's charities especially, but I'll try and help anyone that I can. It isn't just because Terry is featured in the appeal; it's something I'd do anyway. I try to do a fundraiser every year."

Staff at the pub are all set for the festivities.

Barmaid Tina Eaton said: "I'm looking forward to all of the fundraising events.

"I'm bring my little ones, Paige and Georgina, to the Boxing Day family event they're coming as fairies.

"It's great to be doing something at Christmas for disadvantaged children."

The Rotarians are after a painted handcart with a 6ft by 3ft deck, preferably with a canopy.

The cart will act as a focal point for their two-day collection, which is on December 14-15 outside Tesco on Ocotal Way.

They hope to borrow it from December 12 to 16. If you can help call Tony Hill on 347044 or Brian Hacker on 813585.
