In last Wednesday's Evening Advertiser you published an article about Swindon Animal Concern's campaign to remind people that buying a pet for Christmas is not very sensible.
I was very concerned by a response given by a Petworld spokesman.
It was stated that a process is followed whereby it is established through questioning whether or not the pet is suitable for that particular customer.
I have worked for Cats Protection for a number of years and I regularly carry out home checks before an animal is homed.
This is essential in order to get an idea of the environment in which the animal will live, as well as establishing the capabilities of the prospective owner.
I would therefore argue that the process carried out at Petworld has little value.
Local sanctuaries like ours have had to pick up the pieces.
A Do-It-Yourself store is no place to sell animals and I support Swindon Animal Concern's efforts to get Focus Do-It-All to re-think its policy of selling pets.
