RESIDENTS of Bishops Cannings are continuing their fight against a proposed neighbourhood recycling centre on Horton Road, close to houses at Wellington Drive and Ferozeshah Road.
Parish council chairman Barry Cremin told Monday evening's meeting of the Devizes Community Area Forum residents would "do everything in our power to fight this application to a successful conclusion."
He refuted claims by Hill's Waste, which wants to build the centre on the Wiltshire County Council depot, that it would attract a maximum of 150 vehicles on a weekday and 250 at the weekend.
He said: "I visited a similar site near Chippenham and was told they had about 1,500 cars last Sunday and 1,250 the week before.
"Horton Road is narrow and Ferozeshah Road is a no-through-road.
"The siting of a recycling centre there will cause chaos."
Residents are furious that Kennet District Council raised no objection to the scheme which is likely to be decided by Wiltshire County Council early in the New Year.
Meanwhile, residents are continuing their fight and have raised a petition with over 100 names from residents of Ferozeshah Road and Wellington Drive.
Michael Ancram MP has become involved and has written to Wiltshire County Council suggesting the plan should be called in by Secretary of State for the Environment, John Prescott, and a public inquiry held.
He has received a reply saying the county council believes it is not suitable to be called in.
