THE Christmas lights in Pewsey will be switched on by Carnival Queen Claire Dreweatt at 7pm on Sunday and blessed by Vicar Colin Fox before a carol concert led by the Kings Korner musicians.

Carnival chairman Richard Giles will be leading a team of volunteers who will start erecting the lights around the village centre at 9am on Sunday.

Mr Giles said extra displays costing £700 will be added this year thanks to sponsorship. Scaffolding to carry lights in the centre of the Market Place is being provided by F Dewey Ltd.

After Claire officially switches on the lights, Mr Fox will lead a short act of worship which will be followed by carol singing accompanied by the Kings Korner Concert Ensemble.

Mr Giles said this would be the second year that the carnival committee had used its lights as Christmas illuminations in the centre of the village.

"It was the first time Pewsey had Christmas lights although the Chamber of Commerce had put up some Christmas trees by the river in the past."

Mr Giles said the lights were erected by a volunteer group supported by a field kitchen run by Nigel Lihou providing welcome food and hot drinks.
