I WOULD like to reply to your letters column to Mr Cameron McLennan, Gazette & Herald of the November 30.

The Marlborough Area Development Trust is the result of an initiative by Kennet District Council and is one of four such partnerships throughout the district. The other three areas are centred in Pewsey, Devizes and Tidworth.

A comprehensive study was commissioned by Kennet in 1998 into the health of Marlborough and its community area. The report concluded that Marlborough and its area is generally healthy but recommended action on a variety of issues in order to maintain it as a pleasant place to live.

Therefore, in answer to your questions, your elected councillors have played a very active part in the formation of these Economic Patnerships.

They do involve the town and parishes and the private sector including the chamber of commerce. We also have a representative from the health centre, police, schools and churches.

Furthermore, the formation of the Marlborough partnership was open and public. These partnerships are actively encouraged by Central Government.

The Marlborough Trust is still in its infancy but we hope to have a leaflet ready in the early part of next year, which will identify our objectives and issues, both economic and environmental.

Should Mr McLennan or any member of the public require more information or wish to become a member of the Trust, please contact the chairman at Marlborough Town Council, or write to The Economic Development Officer at Kennet District Council.
