A MOTHER has warned that children walking to an after-school club in Warminster risk being involved in an accident, if road safety measures are not implemented soon.

Claire Randall, 31, of The Teasels, Warminster, believes that something must be done to protect children's safety at a dangerous road junction in Sambourne Road.

Mrs Randall, who helps run the Acorns after-school club in the Assembly Hall, has to take 11 pupils from Minster Primary School to the club on a daily basis, including her two children Kelly, six, and Sam, four.

She believes that a pelican crossing or lollipop lady is urgently required at the bottom of Sambourne Road as hordes of school children and speeding motorists make crossing the street a nightmare.

She said: "It is an accident waiting to happen, I can just see one happening there very soon and then it will be too late.

"Cars are supposed to be going 30 mph, but they don't."

Mrs Randall has already written a letter to Warminster town council expressing her concern and stresses that if action is not taken soon, a petition and full-blown campaign will be launched.

Cllr Paul Batchelor, whose two daughters attend the after-school club, said: "It is a very dangerous road. Normally, it seems like you need a couple of deaths before they put a crossing in.

"Do we want our children to be ploughed down? Lots of children use this route, including pupils from Kingdown School."
