A MAN who got into an argument with his wife has been bound over to keep the peace by North West Wiltshire magistrates sitting at Trowbridge.

Prosecuting, Diane Walker said police were called to the home of John Marshall, of Eden Grove, Whitley, at 11.30pm on November 24 after a report of a domestic dispute.

She said Marshall's wife alleged she had been assaulted by her husband.

When Marshall was interviewed by police he had admitted an argument had taken place.

Marshall told police he had been trying to avoid getting into an argument with his wife in a room with other people there.

"He denied the assault and claimed he was trying to defend himself," said Mrs Walker.

Defending, Trevor Line said Marshall had been trying to leave the room when his wife had barred his way.

Mr Line said he had pushed her out of the way and she had fallen on the sofa.

A charge of common assault was withdrawn and Marshall agreed to be bound over in the sum of £100 for 12 months.
