AS the grandparent of a pupil and as a new governor at Bitham Brook Primary School I was dismayed to read Apostrophe Attack in last week's issue of The Gleaner.
It has become sadly commonplace now to blame teachers for all manner of sins, great and small regardless of the truth of the matter. In this case the comments, however light-heartedly made, were completely inaccurate. The auction of promises was not organised by staff, nor was the programme anything to do with them. This kind of gratuitous accusation is distressing to teachers.
The auction was in fact organised by a group of helpers of the school who voluntarily put in an enormous amount of time to arrange and run the event.
It's rather a pity that more lines were taken on this criticism than the four and a half given to the magnificent £2,000 raised for the children by their efforts.
