NOW that Matravers School has gained specialist arts college status, there are some ambitious and exciting projects being planned.
Deputy head Michael Gorman is working on developing an exchange programme with Gunjur, a small community in Gambia.
Mr Gorman has already visited Gunjur and described it as "the most extraordinary time I've ever had".
It is planned to use some of the extra funds that will be made available to let students experience the different, rich culture of the people of Gunjur and to extend to people from Gunjur the opportunity to visit Wiltshire.
In line with the school's new status a particular emphasis will be put on learning about the approach to arts and crafts in each of the countries.
The school will be working with Marlborough Brant, part of the Wiltshire World Study centre, a group which has been arranging exchange visits to Gambia for many years.
Mr Gorman hopes to send some teachers there next year as a further step towards building up a relationship that could enrich both communities.
