A PLACE in the third round of the FA Cup could mean a six-figure bonus for Town's bank balance.
Peter Rowe, the club's chief executive, believes the importance of reaching the next stage of the competition cannot be stressed enough.
"We are, of course talking about what could or might happen. I don't want to put any extra pressure on Andy and the players before the game," he said.
But Mr Rowe explained that a potentially money-spinning third round tie could provide the club with a significant financial lifeline.
"That is why I am appealing for the supporters to really get behind the team for today's game with Gateshead," he said.
"We have to make sure we are in the hat for the third round draw tomorrow night.
"The fans can play their part by really getting behind the lads.
"A glamorous tie in the next round of the cup could bring in a six-figure sum, which would be more than useful."
Current FA Cup rules stipulate that gate receipts are split equally between the home side and their visitors.
"If you want an example, although in a different competition, Bury played Manchester United in the Worthington Cup a couple of years ago. The attendance was about 50,000. I think Bury's share of the gate money was £300,000."
TV money also comes into the equation should Town feature in a particularly appealing tie.
"Make no mistake, we are talking a real potential windfall for the club," said Mr Rowe, but also said that officials are also excited about what could happen on the pitch.
"I want to stress that the office staff are not just concerned with finances," he said. "We care passionately about the team and the results. Success breeds success."
The club is making every effort to ensure that its loyal followers are not left disappointed should Town land a plum tie in the next round.
The Town Ender membership card scheme has been launched, with the support of the Evening Advertiser. Supporters buying a card (£5) are guaranteed cup tickets.
Those retaining their ticket for today's game will receive priority for the third round if Town get through.
Further information about the Town Ender card can be obtained from Swindon Town on (01793) 333777.
Fans are reminded that the Town End is not open for today's game.
Andy King has denied rumours that Town are looking to sign former keeper Fraser Digby as a goalkeeping coach.
