A PROJECT which provides a bus service around the Pewsey Vale has won a top national award.
The Wigglybus runs hourly between Devizes and Marlbor-ough, 'wiggling' its way to pick up passengers in smaller settlements who have phoned in to a special call centre based at ambulance headquarters in Chippenham.
It has been given the Bus in the Countryside Award section of the Fifth Annual Bus Industry Awards the Oscars of the bus world.
They celebrate innovation and partnership and reward projects providing accessible services which meet the needs of bus passengers.
The Wigglybus has been running for more than a year and is a partnership between the Pewsey Vale Transport Appraisal Group, Wiltshire County Council, Kennet District Council and Hatts Coaches.
It is in great demand on just one day in September the service carried 104 passengers.
The travel club, which provides discount fares for a small annual fee, now has more than 300 members. The fare is £1 for non travel club members and 30p for members.
And the whole service has proved so popular there are now plans to introduce an evening service.
