Screwfix: The Screwfix League's list of postponements got even longer on Saturday, as only three of the local sides managed to play their fixtures.

And those that did play could not record the results they wanted, as they struggled to find form after weeks of cancellations.

In the Premier Division, Devizes Town travelled down to Devon to face Dawlish Town, but it took them 45 minutes to find any continuity in their play at all.

Devizes went 2-0 down after only ten minutes, and their opponents could well have added to their lead before half-time, were it not for some heroic Devizes goalkeeping.

The Wiltshire team did manage to raise their game in the second half, and got a goal back through the boot of David Lloyd seven minutes from time, but it was all too little, too late for Brian Newlands' men.

Newlands said "Once we went two behind we were always chasing the game, and they had thoroughly deserved to be ahead.

"We were pathetic in the first half, and I gave the lads a good talking to at half-time. After that they responded, but you had to question their commitment prior to that."

The game was in doubt just minutes before kick-off, as there was severe flooding in the surrounding area.

Newlands said "We were a little surprised that the game went ahead, but we cannot use the conditions as an excuse.

"The groundsmen did a very good job and the pitch played well. It was just a shame that we didn't."

Devizes will have to go back to the drawing board, as they travel to Melksham in a Wiltshire derby next Saturday.

Also in the Premier, Melksham lost 3-0 at Brislington, in a game that turned out to be little more than a festive mud-bath.

The game had to be played on a quagmire of a pitch, and Melksham manager Robbie Lardner felt the game shouldn't have gone ahead.

He said: "The conditions were atrocious, and we really shouldn't have played.

"Once we had gone a goal behind it was always going to be difficult, especially when you consider how poorly we defended."

The highlight of the game was Brislington's second goal one which came straight out of the David Beckham manual.

Richard Thomas saw the Melksham goalkeeper well off his line, and struck a fierce free-kick from 60 yards out.

The ball sailed over the despairing dive from the goalkeeper and nestled into the back of the Melksham net.

Preparations are already being made for their game with Devizes, and they are relieved to welcome back club Captain Steve Steels for the game.

Elsewhere, in the First Division, Calne Town drew 0-0 at home to Cadbury Heath.

After a very tight game where the defenses were on top, Calne were satisfied with a clean sheet, and were glad to get a point.

Manager Graham Learmonth said: "Considering we haven't played for weeks, I was pleased.

"We missed a few chances, but it could have been worse."

His side face Warminster in another Wiltshire Derby next Saturday.
