A VILLAGE pub which coaxed reclusive rock legend Peter Green on to its stage has now lined up other big name acts.
Crown Hotel licensees Gary Marlowe and Sarah Jane Levitt said the bad weather which marred the performance of the former Fleetwood Mac member had not put them off.
On June 16, the man who is known as the godfather of the British blues movement, John Mayall, will be playing at the Everleigh pub with his Bluesbreakers band.
Also appearing will be with Chris Farlowe whose classic number one Out of Time was specially written for him by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
They will be supported by Amor, a new group formed by John Amore from Devizes who was formerly with The Hoax.
Publicans Mr Marlowe and Ms Levitt are determined to put Everleigh on the musical map and build a reputation for good music to go with their already established reputation for a friendly pub.
Booking Peter Green, the founder of Fleetwood Mac and one of the world's greatest blues virtuosos was a huge gamble for a village pub and the only element beyond their control was the weather.
It poured for much of the day on April 28 but that did not deter hardcore fans from listening and dancing to one of the world's greatest rock enigmas. Green, who quit Fleetwood Mac shortly after the group's first and biggest ever hit, Albatross, spent the next three decades in and out of hospitals recovering from mental illness and drugs addiction.
Ms Levitt said the pub lost heavily on the Green concert primarily because of the awful weather. The bands played under cover in the pub garden but those attending had to put up with the storms. She said: "We did lose a lot of money on that concert but the beer festival we held the following weekend was a great success and helped make up for it."
It is costing the pub £16,000 to stage the next concert and, said Ms Levitt, they are praying for blue skies and sunshine to help make the event a sell-out success. The ticket hotline is (01264) 852664.
She said: "We are hoping this concert is going to be bigger and better than the Peter Green concert."
John Mayall's legendary band The Bluesbreakers helped launch the careers of a number of top musicians including Peter Green, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood and Eric Clapton. It was Green, McVie and Fleetwood who formed Fleetwood Mac.
Mr Marlowe and Ms Levitt are planning concerts once a month for the rest of the summer and said they are still hoping to book Van Morrison in August.
