SAUCY seaside postcards have been left out in the cold since the arrival of political correctness but they are making a comeback at a pub in Abbey Meads.

The naughty post-cards, featuring buxom blondes and big bums which used to be a key feature of British seaside resorts along with soggy fish and chips and donkey rides.

Now The Toby Carvery Inn and restaurant, which opened two weeks ago, has brought back those old favourites.

The pub features framed traditional postcards featuring risqu and suggestive scenes.

Assistant manager Antony Macklin-Palmer, 27, said: "It's going really well everybody who comes through the door seems to like it. It's a bit different."

Sarah Weatherhead who is the assistant brand manager explained why the Toby pubs use the postcards.

"The main reason we have the postcards is because we like to make the pubs quite nostalgic.

"So when people come in they are reminded of things in the past and can have a laugh.

"It is definitely something traditionally British and as well as the postcards we have pictures of Carry On films."

Business manager Steve Gormley said the pub was on the look out for more cards and was running a competition asking people to send them in.

"The postcards were really popular in the 1940s and it's the sort of thing that many of us have stashed away in drawers and cupboards."

Brian Hunt, 61, from Blunsdon popped in for a pint and to have a look.

"I love the postcards and they add to the atmosphere. I've got some at home although they are a little rude."

Used cards will entitle the sender to a complementary meal for two.

Originals can be copied and returned if a self-addressed envelope is included.
