Chippenham surrendered the league's final unbeaten record as they slumped to a disappointing 2-1 home defeat against pre-season title favourites Evesham.
It was Town's first loss since March, and it took a injury time winner to end that impressive run.
The Bluebirds looked to be soaring to the top of the league on the hour mark, when striker Matt Rawlins struck brilliantly with an angled 20-yard drive.
Rawlins however, quickly went from hero to villain. With ten minutes remaining, the former Arsenal man brought down Shaun Pratt in the penalty area, and Steve McCarten equalised from the resulting spot-kick.
Deep into injury time a share of the spoils looked likely, but a quick break by the visitors ended with Pratt firing home from the edge of the box to snatch victory for United.
After the game, distraught Town boss Tommy Saunders said: "I'm gutted. It's been six months since we lost, so it was bound to happen sooner or later. But I'm so disappointed, I don't know how people that lose every other week can cope.
"I thought we deserved a draw today. Some of the refereeing decisions were terrible, but to be fair we've ridden our luck at times this season, so that's the way it goes."
